Candle Fragrance Load FAQs: Your Questions Answered
To produce good quality candles, it's important to be aware of the percentage of fragrance that your chosen wax can hold: this percentage is referred to by professional candlemakers as your "fragrance load". Using too much fragrance can result in candles with dry or lumpy wax or even produce candles that do not hold a flame. More details on why this calculation is important to candlemaking can be found in our blog post here:
How to calculate fragrance load when making candles »
This is the amount of fragrance, expressed as a percentage. The fragrance load is usually between 5-6% but does depend on the type of candle wax you are using.
Most candlewax has an average gravity of 0.86 (meaning it is 86% the density of water).
Enter in the number of candles you wish to produce under the field called "Quantity". For an example, if making a total of 4 candles you'll want to enter in "4" into this field.
Enter your container size and select the unit of measurement you are using. The load calculator allows for calculations in ounces, grams and pounds.
Configure the fragrance load percentage for the wax you are using to produce your candles.
